Climb Mt Kinabalu

If you love climbing and looking for natural view, you may travel to Sabah, Malaysia, which the Mt Kinabalu located. Mt Kinabalu is one of the easiest mountains in the world to climb, and thousands of people of all ages reach the summit every year. There are no special skills or equipment required to climb, all you need just good stamina, determination, and weatherproof clothing. Usually the weather can be very cold and wet on the summit.

Whoever reaches the summit will be rewarded with a memorable experience. You may record all the views on the way to summit. The views are magnificent, even before you get to the top or the summit, and the sunsets are incredible. The cloud is like a flying carpet, in clear day you may see Philippine from the summit.

Guide to climb Mt Kinabalu

Most people climb Mt Kinabalu need two days to reach the summit. Usually on first day they just reach as far as Laban Rata or the nearby huts. Then climb to the summit at dawn and return to the park headquarter that day. The park headquarters reckons you should be underway by 10 AM to make Laban Rata in good time, but this is probably conservative, leaving by 11 AM should be fine if you are reasonably fit, though most people set off between 8 and 9 AM.

climb mt kinabaluDown on the summit is often an-all-too-brief glimpse across Borneo at 6 AM before the clouds roll in along the mountainous spine stretching toward the morning light. Sometime the summit is socked in already, at other times sun shines through till 10 AM or later. You will not know until you get there, but that is part of the adventure. Many people climb as far as Laban Rata, stay overnight and descend the next morning, the view are still special, there are no guide fee to pay and the really hard yards at the summit approach can be left to others.

Either way it is wise to stay overnight at the park headquarter, at least the night before the climb. This will allow you to make an early start and to acclimatize a bit. Mt kinabalu is high enough for altitude sickness to occur,

The climb is uphill 99% of the way, it is unrelenting, steep in places and there are seemingly endless steps, actually there are 2500, as far as Laban Rata. Then it get a whole lot tougher. The trails become even steeper as you approach to the summit, then disappears altogether on vast, near vertical fields of slippery granite. Every step can be a struggle as you gasp for breath the thin air.

The secret of climbing Mt Kinabalu is stamina. Take it slowly, very slowly if you are tired and out of the breath. Many people start off briskly then have to take frequent and increasingly longer rest breaks, while the old hand just keep trudging along. Take it easy and walk at comfortable pace, you will reach the summit.
