Travel health depends on your preparation. Before departure to the destination site, you must check your health, is it fit or not to travel and prepare some medicines or equipment for your travel health. If the destination you would visit just a big city, you may not need any medical kit on your bag. But if it is a remote area, you may find medical kit is very important.
This is not a bad idea to bring medical kit on your travel. Sometimes you need first aid on your own, this is for your safety. Even you travel in a group, this medical kit will keep you and group on safe site. No matter how far you travel or visit a place which is not appeared in the map.
Following is a list of medicines and equipments you should consider in your medical kit. You can consult your pharmacist for brand with similar ingredient in your country.
- Pain relieve, you can add Aspirin or paracetamol in your medical kit. In USA known as acetaminophen.
- Multivitamin, or supplement this is important if you plan a long trips. Sometimes the vitamins intake from dietary foods inadequate.
- Antihistamines, for allergies, hay fever, itches from insect bites, and to prevent motion sickness.
- Antiseptic, such as povidone iodine, for cut wound and gazes.
- Bandage, band-aid, for wound dressing.
- Cold and flue tablets, throat lozenges and nasal decongestant.
- Anti-diarrhoea, such as loperamide, diphenoxilate.
- Anti-nausea and vomiting, such as metaclopramide, prochlorperazine.
- Antibiotics, you should consult to your doctor since this is included in the prescribe medicines. This kind of antibiotics needed if you travel well off the beaten track.
- Insect repellent, sunscreen, lip balm and eye drops.
- Calamine lotion, sting relief spray or aloe vera to ease irritation from sunburn or insects bites or stings.
- Rehydration mixture, to prevent dehydration, which may occur during bouts of diarrhea, especially if you travel with the children.
- Antifungal cream or powder, for fungal skin infections and thrush.
- Steril kit, in case you need injection in a country with medical hygiene problem.
You may have to take immunizations before entering some countries. Therefore you should plan ahead for getting immunizations. However you can consult with your doctor for any advice related to travel health.
