The beauty of Petra is known as the Rose-Red city for the color of the rocks in which Petra is carved. Also it is John William Burgon who described Petra in his poem, “a rose-red city half as old as time”. When you ever visit Petra, you will say that nothing on Jordan, or middle east or even in this world can compare to the overwhelming magnificence of Petra. Built by Nabataeans as early as 312 BC, Petra is secreted away in a labyrinthine desert canyon, and its beauty really what John Burgon’s poem described.
There are many paths to visit Petra, but the best access to Petra is by a narrow siq, a wadi canyon with vertical rock walls towering 100 metres in either side. The path just had 3-4 metres wide, becoming narrower and darker. Whether you visit Petra on horseback or by camel or by shank’s pony, nothing can hold you to see the breathtaking revelation beyond the final corner, it’s really amazing, that’s way Transformer movies was interested to be shot here.
The treasure of Jordan.
After final corner, you will see the treasure, picked out in the morning sunlight, make it rose-red color of the rock imminent. The sheer size of its immense facade is staggering, nearly 43 metres high and 30 metres wide. It dwarfs for anyone to stand on its portals, because of 10 metres its entrance height, and the detailed sculpture is preserved in all its grandeur.
Never actually a treasure, nor even a dwelling, this great facade fronts a relatively insignificant interior, which like hundreds of other similar rock excavations in Petra, is almost certainly a tomb. Beyond the treasure, the canyon widens into the broad basin surrounded by carving of all shapes and sizes, temples, royal tomb, a Roman amphitheatre seating 3000, all carved out of the solid rock.
Actually Petra was never a fully functioning city. What houses there were have long since crumbled to dust and only tombs have withstood the test of time. The brilliant exterior pink of the structure is dimmed by the richness of the colors within, until now still a fresh and visually amazing, the same as the day rock was fist cut with hammer and chisel.
The monastery of Petra.
If you still like to explore in Petra, there are another breathtaking example of massiveness. The monastery is even bigger than the treasure, and just as spectacularly ornate. If you still have energy, set off early in the morning with the sun behind you, it is hour and half’s climb to the high place of sacrifice.
For once the name is accurate, and the rock pits and the carvings here at the summit recall the place’s violent past. Now it’s much quieter spot, affording view across Petra’s fabulous monument below. However it is belong to the Jordan’s most exciting place.
You can visit Petra on winter season, because weather would help you reach the monastery. Otherwise if on summer time the weather could be extreme, sometimes could reach 50 degree Celsius. However Petra is belong to 28 place to see before you die.
