Thing to See and Do in Brunei

Perhaps you will not see Brunei on the map, a small country located in south of Borneo. But Brunei is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, this rich of oil production gave good revenue to Negara Brunei Darussalam. This country is a peaceful place to visit, you will experience green living around this country.

Even tiny country, Brunei has many places to see, it is a right place to anyone who want to see a green city. Brunei is not crowded like Singapore or even Kuala Lumpur, but modern life and village or kampong has mixed in this country. Perhaps not much peoples is a great place to breathe and enjoy the view.

Taman Peranginan Tasek

Taman is park in malay language, this park is a pleasant retreat from the city. It has picnic areas and green scene to the small waterfall. This park is a short distance from town. You can walk along Jalan Tasek Lama north from the city center, past the Terrace Hotel and after two sets of traffic lights turn right.

From the entrance gates or parking lot, it is about one kilometer to the waterfall. You can continue, past the flowerbeds and picnic tables, then follow the stream to waterfall. The best view is in the rain season, usually the water is deeper, you can swim here, but for women should follow the rules of modesty. You can use T-shirt and short, if you like to swim and enjoy the waterfall.

Arts and Handicrafts Center

If you look for souvenir and traditional crafts of Brunei, you should visit Arts and Handicrafts Center. It is near the town, you can walk and visit this center, usually open from Monday to Saturday at 8 am to 12 am and 1.30 pm to 4.30 pm. But many visitors feel the crafts sometimes too expensive for the souvenir.

However you can select the traditional crafts that really have value in your sight. Actually this center just to accommodate local craftwork, but it is nice to see how they made those crafts and the type of the crafts represents the past of Brunei. These crafts differs from other places in south of Borneo.

Kampung Ayer

Many visitors believe Kampung Ayer is Venice of the East, kampung is village in malay language. The villages spread along the banks of Sungai Brunei and Sungai Kandayan, sungai is river in malay language. A visit to Kampung Ayer is the most interesting experience you will have in Brunei.

This Kampung Ayer is a maze of wooden plankwalks connecting brightly painted shacks to shops, villages to schools, clinics to workshops. It is fascinating to wander around Kampung Ayer. The best way to get to Kampung Ayer is near Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque.
