Place to Shop in Kuala Lumpur

KL has plenty shopping malls and promotes itself as a shopping haven. KL has excellent choice, though not as complete like Singapore. The clothes and shoes are inexpensive, although not as cheap as neighboring Thailand and Indonesia, still their range is better. KL has a competitive price for camera, film, computer software and hardware, especially copy of software is very cheap possibly pirated.

KL may be the best place to buy handicrafts in Malaysia, but higher wages mean that Malaysia produces fewer handicrafts these days. Traditional Malay Batik cloth and kites can be found but not cheaply, and almost everything else is imported from Indonesia, Thailand, or elsewhere. You can bargain if the price is higher, especially antique souvenir, or crafts.

Golden Triangle

Golden triangle has plenty of shopping malls, usually open 10 am to 10 pm. You can shop for clothes, shoes, electronics, cameras, and everyday goods in Sungai Wang plaza or BB plaza. Sungai Wang plaza is especially good for camera gear, computer software and hardware, it located in Jalan Sultan Ismail.

shop at klccBB plaza is located in Jalan Bukit Bintang, there are also other shopping mall nearby, Lot 10 and Star Hill. They sell genuine designer-label clothes, shoes and perfume. Also squeezed between them is KL plaza, housing Tower record and Planet Hollywood. Other seller brand-name goods is Mall shopping center on Jalan Putra, opposite the Pan Pacific Hotel in Chow Kit, it has Yaohan department store. This place has a good selection of electronics in basement, you can check for the price here, before you can bargain elsewhere.

Suria KLCC located at the foot of the Petronas Towers, has Isetan and Parkson Department store, the mall has several bookshops, designer clothes and shoe stores, and gourmet restaurants. You can find every fast food outlet on the ground floor, there are many foods which you can eat and pick for your travel. You may go upstairs in 3rd floor, are some art and crafts shops, especially Pucuk Rebung has antiques and fine Malay items.

Chinatown

Jalan Petaling in the heart of Chinatown is one of the most colorful shopping streets in KL, particularly at night. This streetside market has cheap clothes, copy watches, pirated CDs and smattering of crafts, hard bargaining is definitely in order. You can also enjoy foods while you shop at Chinatown.

S&M shopping arcade located on Jalan Cheng Lock has plenty selections in clothes, electronics, and everyday goods. Even you can buy film, copy software, smartphone are the shopper’s interest, especially items from “black market’. Usually has very good range price.

Litle India

Jalan Masjid India is the place to shop for saris, Indian silks, carpets and other textiles. Although you can also find great deals on carpets on upper floors of the City-square complex in the north-east of KL. On Jalan TAR, Globe Silk is KL institution, this small department store has cosmetics, textiles and clothes at some of the cheapest price in town.

The modern Sogo department store farther north carries designer clothes, household goods and a few electronics. The Pertama Complex across the streets sells cheaper clothes and shoes. On the ground floor is camera shops, it is very good in camera items, camera repair and photo developing.
